Thing I've Made as of Now 8/4/2013

Hey, thought I would make a blog so that people could see how I make what I make and communicate with me better about it.

SO, I am currently making two cosplays for Hamilton Armageddon 2013. The first is Gaara from 'Naruto Shippuden' for the Saturday and the second is Soushi from 'Inu x Boku SS' for the competition on the Sunday.

So far I haven't finished anythign entirely because I like to do a hundred things at once because I get bored easily, lol. So I'll show you Gaara's gourd that I have made so far. It had a base of beach ballas taped together then got papermache'd.

Something I have noticed with a lot of Gaara cosplays whe it come to the gourd is that the gourd is smooth, that the people who have made them have just painted straight on top of the papermache. The gourd's still look awesome, but I didn't want my gourd to be like that. Gaara's gourd is made out of his special sand hardened with chakra, so I wanted my gourd to look like that. I covered the papermache in glue and stuck sand to it to give it a nice gritty texture then went about painting a golden sandy colour on top of it. On the seond photo I began adding lowlights and highlights to the gourd but the colours were a bit too dark/light so I had to go about fixing them so they looked a bit more natural.

Next, I painted on the seals in a pale yellow, but they didn't look right to me. I thought that painting the black boarder around it would fix the problem, but it didn't. I wanted the seals to look like there were a part of the gourd, like, imbedded within the sand, but it just came out looking very cartoonish.

I'll cut up some tissue paper and place it on top of the painted seal to see what that looks like. Make it look like the seals have been placed on the gourd instead of embedded in it.

Now I reall, REALLY, didn't want ot make a cork for the gourd, so I thought about what I could make istead of a cork and came up with a giant sand hand instead, lol. The hand is made out of a wire base then covered with paper tape. From there I covered the hand with hot glue until I was happy with it's shape. The paper tape was added so the hot glue would have something to sit on.

After the hot glue was dried I pushed the hand into the top of the gourd with the two metal prongs I left hanging out. I was going to just hot glue the hand in when I thought that it would be cooler if I could remove the hand and replace it with other things that would come out of Gaara's gourd, like hald of a sand sheild dome, or just an expolsion of sand from the top, or maybe even a cork, lol. So I covered the openeing of the gourd in plastic wrap and then put the hot glue on top of that. To give it a bit more oomph I put thin strips of wire in it then coated them in hot glue to make it look like sand was exploding out with the hand, along with a hot glue drip on the thumb. From there I covered it in watered down PVA glue and then put sands on top of that. I haven't finished covering it with sand yet though.

And whilst I was making the hand I got bored and turned it into a hat briefly. Please ignore my beauty pagent face, lol.

And I thought it would be cool to make some sand shuriken for Gaara as well (I actually just really wanted to make sand shuriken, regardless of Gaara lmao). I drew a shuriken shape onto a piece of thin card then cut it out and put hot glue on it the covered it with watered down PVA glue then stuck sand on it then painted it. Although the colour is very different from the colour of the sand on the gourd so I might have to repaint it. I'm in the process of making a video tutorial on how to makie these sand shuriken, so stay tuned for that!!

And that's it for now. I'm currently in the process of sewing Gaara's grey vest thing, and in the process of making Soushi's nine tails. I've already made the base of two of his tails, but it is proving to be very time consuming because I'm making the tails move and it takes a lot of time to do that, lol.
